Over the last 2 months, we have had a couple of decent snow storms. And when I say decent snow storms, I'm meaning approximately 12 inches of snow each time. With these snowfalls come salt covered sidewalks and parking lots, which are doing quite a number on my boots. After doing some reading, I found it isn't hard to remove these salt stains, and you most likely have all of the necessary supplies right in your kitchen!
Supplies
** Note: Test a small area of your boot before doing this to the entire boot - materials/fabrics may react differently
Remove any whole grains of salt from your boots with your fingers
Create a mixture of 2 parts warm water and 1 part white vinegar (amount will vary depending on size of boots and size of salt stain). I used 2/3 cup water and 1/3 cup white vinegar and it was more than enough. Fold paper towel and dip into water/white vinegar mixture.
Rub a small area of your fist boot. After it appears the white salt stain has been rubbed out, buff (rub) the same area with a soft cloth.
Continue step 3 until both boots have been completed (a small area at a time, immediately followed by buffing). Allow boots to air dry for at least 30 minutes. Re-check for any missed spots, which may appear only after completely drying & repeat as necessary.
