Wedding Flashback Series: Ceremony

Planning your wedding ceremony

When it came to planning our wedding ceremony, E and I were on the same page - we both wanted simple.  The sanctuary where we were married was actually a renovated warehouse, but we were able to get the intimacy we wanted.

Over Christmas, the church had put up white lights around the ceiling beams, and I fell in love with it.  Throughout the year, the lights are wrapped up so they don't dangle, but my dad was able to unwrap them for the ceremony.  With the lights dimmed and the white lights hanging, we definitely were able to achieve the atmosphere we had wanted.

The simplicity carried through with decorating the sanctuary.  We had a white aisle runner, two tables with a pot on each holding a pineapple plant, an arbor set up behind us, and a small table holding our unity candle.  We relied on the plants already in the church to make the baptismal tub not stand out so much, and the only other flowers we had were the ones the girls were holding.

We found both our unity candle and table at Hobby Lobby - definitely a frequent shopper there while planning the wedding!  (Actually, the frequent shopping there has yet to stop)

When our guest arrived, before being seated, they were able to sign our guestbook (also found at Hobby Lobby).

As they entered the sanctuary, they were handed a program from our ring-bearer and junior groomsman.

We handmade our programs and they took about two weekends to do so.  We were able to use the same paper as our invitations to help tie everything together.  I set up a template in Word (Mac, 2008 version) and made a cover page, ceremony order, wedding party list, a crossword with words describing mine and E's journey, directions to the reception, and a thank you page.

E was the one who made the final decision to round all the corners - which he soon regretted because he was given that job!  We joined all the pages with a heart-shaped brad.  We then tied a ribbon around the back of the brad and wrapped/glued the other end of the ribbon around a small pencil.  It was definitely worth all the work!

After the ceremony - now MARRIED! - our guests were able to pick up a vial of bubbles to blow at us during our grand exit.

To be honest, putting our ceremony together did not cost us much, but it was exactly what we wanted.  We didn't want the focus be on all the decorations, but instead on the vows we were taking before our family, friends, and most importantly, God.

I can't wait to show you next week all that went into putting our Reception together!  Be sure to follow me so you don't miss it!
