Book Review - "Dangerous: Engaging the People and Places No One Else Will" by Caleb Bislow with Ted Kluck

I received a complimentary copy of “Dangerous: Engaging the People No One Else Will” by Caleb Bislow with Ted Kluck in exchange for this honest review by participating in the Bethany House Publishers review program, I was not compensated for this post.  All opinions are my own.

Dangerous is a book written about a man, Caleb Bislow, who has a heart for reaching the lost.  The book chronicles Caleb’s life on how he got into the mission field and the places he, and others, have gone.  But Caleb doesn’t just pick anywhere to share the Gospel, he picks the places that no one else is willing to go and boldly goes with a confidence that Christ will be at work.  Caleb describes his mission as going the “13th floor”, a reference to high rise buildings skipping the 13th floor due to superstitions, and states that “As Christians, we sometimes do the same thing—we mark places as 13th floors, places we shouldn’t go because good Christians don’t go there”.  And, ironically, Caleb uses Hebrews 13:13 as scriptural support to go to these places and put everything on the line for Christ.

This book was a bit of an eye opener.  The places that Caleb, and others that have gone with him, have been really make you realize how blessed we truly are.  Caleb not only goes where people have never heard the Gospel, but goes where people have a history of being hostile to any outsider presence.  I really enjoyed the boldness that Caleb shows for spreading the Gospel but at the same time I also felt as if the book was a bit unrelateable. We’re all called to make disciples of all nations, but that doesn’t look the same for every person.  Ultimately, though, this book  touches on the fact that as believers in Christ we’re not always going to be comfortable in all that we do…sometimes we need to take a chance and be bold for Jesus, the one who suffered in order to sanctify.
